Massage

Massage comes in many styles. Basically, massage is a word to describe using the hands to rub, move, or knead tissues of the body for healthful purposes. Descriptions of styles are words like Swedish, Thai, Trigger Point, Sports, Acupressure, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, and MyoFascial. Energy work comes with terms like Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Hands-On Healing, and Chakra Balancing. Where does massage work end and energy work begin?

Whenever one puts their hands on another there is an energy exchange. We have all felt it. Think about this, what do you notice from a handshake? ......Energy exchange.

When someone thinks of a "massage" they are looking for a small amount of time, maybe an hour or so, to really "let go". It is a time to surrender, sense and not think. Massage has a language that is passed through the hands. It is therapeutic. It has many physical benefits such as increasing vascular circulation, moving lymph and detoxifying, speeding up metabolism, calming the nervous system by reducing tension and stress, activating the body’s own self-healing mechanism, being cared for by being touched, as well as energy balancing.

Massage has been a part of most cultures since ancient times. Humans are social creatures. We look to each other to give to and receive from. Getting a "massage" is acknowledging your desire and NEED for human contact as well as any other physical benefit, and actually that IS a physical benefit. Yet the physical is not separate from the emotional or psychological. Massage benefits all aspects of the human-being.
